
The University of the Philippines Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS), in partnership with the UP Center for Women’s Studies Foundation, Inc. (UPCWSFI), the Philippine Blood Center of the Department of Health (DOH), Guardians Social Action Force, Inc., and Persons with Determination (PWD) BUPCA, Inc., is calling on blood donors for the Bigay Dugo, Sagip Buhay: A Bloodletting Activity for UP Community to be held on 12 March 2026 (Thursday), 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM at the UPCWGS Conference Room.
General Eligibility Criteria
Age: 16-65 years old (16-17-year-olds need parental consent)
Weight: At least 50 kg (110 lbs)
Health: Good general health, well-rested (6+ hours sleep), and hydrated
Eat Light: Have a light meal (fruits, bread) and avoid fatty/fried foods 2 hours prior
Hydrate: Drink plenty of water
ID: Bring valid ID
Health and Lifestyle Restrictions
Number of Sleep Hours: 6+ hours of sleep
No Alcohol: Within 24 hours
No Smoking: At least 3 hours before donation
No Medications: Avoid if possible, especially antibiotics (wait 2 weeks)
No Recent Procedures: No tattoos, piercings, or acupuncture within the last 12 months
No Recent Dental Work: No dental extraction in the last month, minor surgery within 12 months
No Blood Transfusion: Within the last 12 months
No High-Risk Sexual Contact or history of STDs/hepatitis
What’s checked onsite?
Blood Pressure: Within acceptable ranges (e.g., 90/60 to 140/90 mmHg)
Hemoglobin/Hematocrit: Must meet minimum levels (e.g., 125 g/L)
Pulse: Regular rhythm (e.g., 60-100 beats per minute)
Temperature: Normal body temperature
*Doctor/s will be present to evaluate the eligibility of blood donors
